It is a practice used for soil fertilization that consists of the cultivation of a certain plant, usually a legume, grass, cruciferous and others, with the purpose of protecting and improving the soil. After a certain period it is cut and left on the soil or incorporated into it still green and not decomposed, thus promoting its enrichment with organic matter and nutrients, mainly nitrogen.
