Tendril

« Back to Glossary Index

It is a prehensile organ present in vines. They are filiform structures, simple or bifurcated at the end, with the function of grabbing branches, twigs, leaves, or any other object that serves as support for the growing plant. Tendrils are usually modified branches or leaves, but can originate from any aerial plant organ, including flowers. Eg: cat’s claw.
