It is an appendix of the epidermis, of varied structure, present on the surface of any organ of plants with different functions. Trichomes may have a protective function against predators, may be associated with the secretion of various substances, or may act to conserve or disperse moisture and heat. They are usually seen as hairs or small scales on the surface of leaves and stems.
