They are organelles of the leaves of plants, formed by two cells in the shape of a kidney or bean, which can control the opening and closing and have the function of carrying out gaseous exchanges between the plant and the environment. Stomata are usually more numerous on the underside of the leaf. Synonym: Stoma.
