Essential macronutrient as activator element of numerous enzymatic processes, however it does not form any organic compound. It actively participates in the synthesis and transport of sugars and is essential in starch-producing crops and sugarcane. It is the second nutrient most absorbed by plants, helps the formation of sugars and proteins and controls the absorption and loss of water by the plant, increasing its resistance against pests and diseases. The absence or deficiency of potassium can cause white or yellowish spots on leaves and thin, weak stems.
